The history of Ilado Farm traces its roots back to the early experiences of Paul Ilado, a young man who grew up in a village where farming played a vital role in the community’s livelihood. As a child, Paul would accompany his parents to the farm, where he would assist in tending to the land and herding cattle. These experiences shaped his understanding of agriculture and instilled in him a passion for farming.
Paul’s parents recognized the importance of education and used the proceeds from their farming activities to provide an education for Paul and his siblings. However, Paul’s connection to the land and his love for farming never waned.
In July 2022, Paul decided to transform his small-scale farming activities into a serious business venture. He chose to focus primarily on pig farming as his main agricultural activity. With determination and hard work, Paul expanded his operations to include, chicken farming, fish farming, cattle farming and crop cultivation. Paul has also planted more than 10,000 trees on the farm.
Recognizing the need for knowledge sharing and community development, Paul established a training centre within Ilado Farm. This centre aimed to educate and train neighbouring and upcoming farmers on modern and sustainable farming methods. By sharing his expertise, Paul fostered collaboration and empowerment among the local farming community.
Ilado Farm grew and flourished, bringing about positive change in the community. The farm created permanent employment opportunities for ten individuals, while also providing casual employment for approximately 30 people every week. Additionally, the farm’s indirect impact extended even further, generating 50 jobs within the village.
Ilado Farm’s contributions have been instrumental in alleviating poverty, combating climate change, and fostering gainful employment for young individuals in the community. By embracing modern farming techniques and sharing knowledge, Ilado Farm has become a beacon of inspiration and progress within the region.
